G5 14 42

G5 14 42

Presentation: During this class we will practice phone conversations. We will add some new phrases that we can use if the person who is being called is not home. We can ask, "Would you like to leave a message?" That means we will let the person know who called and how to call them back. We might also want to ask, "Who is speaking?" if the person we are talking to did not tell us. It is always good to say who we are when we talk on the phone.

Practice: (Emulation)

Hello, this is Sam. Is Sunny there?
This is Sunny speaking.

Hello. This is Sunny. May I speak to Eun?
Hold on, please.
Sam does not live here.
Hello, this is Captain. Is Sam there?
I'm sorry. Sam is out now. Would you like to leave a message?
Is Jack there? No; he is out now. Who is speaking?

Production:

Teacher can play the part of the person making the call and then the person answering the phone. Then have two students do a dialogue. Be sure to explain the scenario to the student (if the person being called is home, etc.)
